When you think of famous American serial killers - Jeffrey Dahmer belongs at the top of the list. Deemed the 'Milwaukee Cannibal' Dahmer was responsible for the murder of 17 boys in the late 1970's and 1980's. This alcohol fueled serial killer didn't just murder his victims though - he often preserved the body parts and sexually assaulted his victims even after they were dead.
Did Jeffrey Dahmer Eat His Victims?
Yes, Jeffrey Dahmer was known to participate in cannibalism on the boys he killed and he admitted to eating his victims. When he was arrested in 1982, police found body parts in Jeffrey's refrigerator and freezer as well as throughout his apartment.
Not only did Dahmer eat his victims, but he admitted to trying to make them into 'sex zombies' before they died. Several skulls were recovered at his apartment with drill holes in them, and he confessed to pouring acid inside their skulls and raping them while incapacitated. WTF. (I feel like I need to take a shower after typing that sentence!)
How Many People Did Jeffrey Dahmer Eat?
Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 young men and confessed to eating them as well. While the exact number of people he ate is unknown - he told reporters that it was his later killings that he began to start keeping in his refrigerator and eating. Jeffrey implies that at more than half of his victims were eaten which would bring the number somewhere between 10 - 15.
Jeffrey was also a raging alcoholic, which contributes to the exact number of victims eaten being vague. He blames most of his crimes on booze fueled rage and only admitted to his crimes after being arrested and sober for some time. He even warns about the effects alcohol has on the mind and how it gave him the 'courage' to give in to his sadistic impulses. His drink of choice was Budweiser beer (how American, right?).
The 18'th Victim Escaped
Jeffrey Dahmer was caught when one of his victims, a 32 year old male named Tracy Edwards escaped from Dahmer's apartment on July 22, 1991. Edwards would have been his 18'th victim but instead was able to inform the police and let to Jeffrey's arrest. Tracy was found with one handcuff on his wrist, as Dahmer had not been able to secure the other wrist before he escaped.
Dahmer was sentenced to 15 consecutive life sentences for his horrific crimes, and was murdered in prison two years later. An inmate named Christopher Scarver bludgeoned him to death with a metal pipe, and he died an hour later in a nearby hospital. Scarver is quoted as saying that Dahmer was unapologetic for his crimes, and he felt a duty to kill him to give some sense of justice to his victims.
